During the whole duration of pregnancy, from the first week to the last, it’s important to take good care of yourself in order to maintain good health of your baby at the time of delivery. Even though, if you have gathered enough knowledge about pregnancy stages, you have to take some precautions and be ever-aware of how what you are going to do and does it cause any harm to your baby. Many women say they’ve never felt healthier than when they carried their children.
In the early days of prenatal care, you may get initial pregnancy signs such as morning sickness, nausea and tiredness. Your body will change internally as well as externally as your baby grows during the nine months of your pregnancy. In this time you need some extra calories from quality nutrition and some thongs to avoid which could affect your baby.

Folic acid
According to the research use of folic acid supplement, one month before pregnancy continued till the end of first trimester could decrease the risk of neural tube defect.

Iron
Iron is very essential for the expecting mother. As the growth of baby gets start the blood plasma level start to increase, in iron deficient women, red blood cell do not increase with the same rate and women become anemic. This put verse effect on the growth of the baby as it does not feed with the required food and oxygen.
Calcium
The average need of the calcium for a woman is 1g but unfortunately most of the women don’t consume the recommended amount. But during development, baby’s calcium demands are very high. Women should increase their calcium intake to prevent a loss of calcium from your own bones.
Fluids
Plenty of fluids are quite useful for the pregnant women, especially water. A woman’s blood volume increases significantly in pregnancy, and drinking enough may prevent mild problems including dehydration and constipation.
Things to avoid
There are lots of thing from which a pregnant women should abstain as these thing can severely affect baby. These include
  1. Smoking
  2. Drinking
  3. Recreational drugs
  4. Nicotine
  5. Caffeine
  6. Junk food
  7. Over the counter prescribed drugs
The above mention factors are the main causes of prematurity, poor growth, jaundice and severe eye and brain damage.
